I
recently just learned about Vimeo in my advertising class. When I chose to do
my corner post on this particular social media site I had never heard of it. It
is a website that is very similar to YouTube. It is a forum where people can
upload their videos for public sharing. Users don’t necessarily have to
create an account to watch videos, but they do if they want to upload their own
material. The videos range from music videos, to commercials to inspirational
videos. The large variety provides a great opportunity to share anything of
someone’s particular interest.
I
get a more formal vibe than with YouTube. The website home page has feature
videos and that is where I started exploring. They videos I watched on their
feature list were very high quality and I enjoyed watching them. The videos
were inspiring and entertaining.
There
is also a lot of helpful information through the website for beginners and
people like me who weren’t really sure what it is all about. There is a page
that informs users on how to get started, how to actually shoot a video and
then how to upload it to the site. People can follow other users and share
videos with each other.
This
website could be useful for public relations purposes. There is actually a
public relations channel and only has videos containing material related to
public relations. There is always an easy connection with the public from using
videos, so this is a great site to connect with people for public relations purposes.
Since Vimeo contains videos where users can create their own, there could be a
video contest to enhance PR efforts. The list could go on using creative ideas.
I thought this website would be great for advertising campaigns as well. Once
something goes viral,
These are some of the videos I enjoyed, and one is off of
the public relations channel:
